Is Park Legend free?
Yes. The browser game is free to play, with every opponent and every place to play. It is paid for by ads on the information pages of the site, never on the chess board and never during a game.
Is the money real?
No. The dollars ($$$) in Park Legend are play money. You start with $100, get a small top-up every day you play, and can stake some on each game. Play money cannot be bought, cashed out, transferred or exchanged for anything. It exists only to make each game mean something and to rank players on the leaderboard.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play straight away as a guest. A guest gets a name like Guest01234 and every game, but no money and no place on the leaderboard. Sign in with Google to keep your balance, rating and record across devices and to be ranked.
Why can't guests be on the leaderboard?
A guest's record lives in one browser with nobody's name on it, and it disappears when that browser's data is cleared. Ranking that would be ranking browsers, not people. The leaderboard counts games played signed in, under a name you choose.
How do I know the leaderboard is fair?
Every signed-in game is sent to the server and replayed move by move under the rules of chess before the result counts. A result the browser merely reports, without a game to back it up, is never credited.
How strong are the opponents?
They range from a beginner around 400 rating points to a strong club player around 2200. One plays the strongest chess the engine can and does not show a number, and another hides his card. If you are new to chess, start with the lowest card and read the rules of chess.
Which devices does it run on?
Any recent desktop or laptop browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) and most phones and tablets. The park is a 3D scene, so an older phone may take a little longer to load the first time. After that it loads from your device's cache.
Can I play against a friend?
Not yet. Park Legend is played against the computer hustlers. Your results are compared with other players through the leaderboard.
Is there an app?
An Android app with the same accounts and leaderboard is being prepared. Until then the website works on phones in the browser.
Is the trash talk offensive?
He is rude about your chess, not about you. The talk is written for the game, stays short of slurs and abuse, and never affects the moves.
How do I delete my account or my data?
In the game, open Account (the button left of Settings) and choose Delete account. Your sign-in, username, play money and add-ons are deleted and you are signed out. Your past results stay on the leaderboard under the name "An Old Legend" and a number, with nothing linking them to you. You can also write to info@theparklegend.com. Guest data is only in your browser: clearing the site's data removes it. See the privacy policy.
